The first of the 'Kool Kreativ' camps is offered to rising 3rd through rising 5th graders, introducing resilience and fundamental coping skills to this population through Music, Mindfulness, Movement and Art. Many of these young students are already struggling with historical high rates of anxiety and depression across all socioeconomic strata, especially emerging from the Pandemic. Camp Kool Kreative offers ‘INLETS’ – ways ‘in’ to access their inner resources and gain comfort and familiarity with their mind-body connection by boosting their brain-body bond via Alexander Technique, Qigong, Taiji, and movement in play; and ‘OUTLETS’ – ways to interact and relate with their outside world using their unique creative voice to compose songs through rhyme, rhythm, and dance; and through age-appropriate art explorations, some of which can be taken home.
Camp Kool Kreativ T-shirts and daily snacks are provided.
To highlight community, broaden perspectives, find commonalities and appreciate and respect perceived differences, this morning camp is offered for one week in two distinct venues: July 10, 12, 14 at Centenary United Methodist Church and July 11, July 13 at William R. Anderson Recreation Center. There will be a short program at both venues showcasing the songs we've 'kooly kreated' and the taiji and qigong movement explorations learned during the week.
Join us on Friday, July 14 at 12:00 PM at Centenary United Methodist Church for our program finale, 'Kool Kreations and Mindful Movements!'
Further introduction to organ, jazz piano, conducting, African drumming and cross-cultural experiences in partnership with the W.R. Anderson Recreation Center are balanced with time shared in nature at local gardens, parks and lakes.
TO REGISTER FOR CAMP: Please purchase the same number of tickets as campers you are registering. Each ticket will be given its own registration form for you to fill out during the checkout process.
